Joe Scarborough calls #UniteBlue ‘fringe,’ ‘freaks,’ ‘hate mongers’

by UniteBlue on May 23, 2014

This morning Joe Scarborough of MSNBC’s Morning Joe voiced his distraught disdain for progressives, liberals and Democrats daring to organize under the banner of #UniteBlue.

“I could just take people who use the hashtag #UniteBlue and make a sweeping condemnation about America’s labor movement if I wanted to, but I don’t because I know that these people are on the fringes; they’re freaks; they’re hate mongers; that there are a lot of people who are in America’s union movements that are good, decent, hardworking people who actually would agree with me on a lot of issues.” 5/23/2014

After displaying his willful ignorance of normal, hardworking Americans, Joe Scarborough owes an apology to the mothers, fathers, retirees, millennials, activists, professionals and all other members of UniteBlue. Calling tens of thousands of good, decent people ‘freaks’ is a sweeping condemnation and makes you a hate monger.

Half a million Tweets per month use the hashtag #UniteBlue, more than #GOP or #TeaParty. It seems this has been getting under somebody’s skin. Nothing scares the Right more than a united Left, and its Joe Scarborough’s job to make progressive grassroots movements like UniteBlue look like a crazy, fringe group. That’s why he makes $100,000 per week while opposing a $10.10 per hour minimum wage.

Supporting unions and workers rights is not a fringe cause. This attack merely demonstrates how far the right has drifted, how out of touch Joe Scarborough has become with the mainstream, and how much the working class coming together scares certain people.

UniteBlue is about bringing real people together because we believe that every voice matters. Our country is broken, our democracy has been bought and our voices are being ignored. Since money became speech a wealthy few are attempting to silence the voices of everyone else. Republicans have vowed to loyally serve corporations, millionaires and billionaires in exchange for huge donations to their campaigns, leaving our government crippled and the rest of us suffering.

We cannot afford to ignore this greed and corruption anymore. We cannot afford to simply watch politics unfold passively on television anymore. We can afford to shape the future of our country actively online today. Each of us can create a meaningful impact discussing the issues we care about most passionately. Our voices in unison can fight back against billionaires buying our democracy and Republicans crippling our government. No wonder the right is worried.

Joe has shown his ignorance … again. Other than ratings, can’t understand why MSNBC keeps the RWKJ on the air. What a laughable statement!

roy dymond May 23, 2014 at 10:02 pm

I would think the Lori Klausutis family finds Joe to be on the fringe

K Smith May 23, 2014 at 10:20 pm

Hear, hear! Great article Unite Blue!

marstu67 May 25, 2014 at 3:07 am

K. Smith, I’d like to second that.

I am so fed up with Morning Joke! Thanks for this article, will share it.

I’ve thought for along time that he needs to go. His views are just not consistant with MSNBC. Calling uniteblue members fringe or crazy is not just an insult, it’s just not true. Get on twitter and look under conservative hashtags and you’ll see crazy. But what’s more important is that the country is split. We shouldn’t call conservatives RWNJs and they don’t need to call us libtards. While we are insulting each other, large corporations are taken over, which is bad for everyone. We need to talk about TPP, drones, NSA, Special Ops and of course jobs and the environment. Unfortunately the Koch brothers have shifted to conversation to the extreme right. We are talking about things now that
would have been considered crazy 30 years ago. We all need to unite and move forward.

Why don’t you guys look into the the real freaks. The tea party

Joe is the type of guy, that would punish
his kids 4 LYING, then PAY his Political Leaders
2 LIE 2 him…. he’s a pitiful person

Diane Straub May 24, 2014 at 2:35 am

Scarborough is another arrogant, self-satisfied GOP corporate and ALEC hack. The Koch Brothers pull his strings and he dances to their tune. A corporate media stooge who adds nothing of value to the public discourse.

Now if people like Joe had to do their job out in the freezing cold, or in the blazing sun for 8hrs. a day, they would appreciate what we Union construction workers did year in and year out so they can sit in those nice comfy buildings and talk trash about those of us who care about the welfare of All working class people.

Starjax May 24, 2014 at 11:43 am

I don’t agree usually with Joe’s views but I am glad he is on msnbc. If you are truly a news station you would present topics from all points of view. Otherwise all the shows are the same broken record over and over with the same soundbites repeated.

Tom Richards May 27, 2014 at 12:11 am

I agree, it is well that msnbc air differing views.

Would Joe not agree that Progresive taxing (a la Ike) would rein-in the excesses of over-paid rip- off labor leaders?

Joe: How about plundering college presidents driving up tuitions? CEOs and pro athletes exporting jobs and capital and driving up ticket prices, respectively? I could go on and on ……

Ask Joe!

#UniteBlue – In Ohio, those who support More and Better Passenger Rail & Transit are called “Cultists”
And this is comming from the Governor who calls
Law Enforcement professionals. “Idiots!”
I call it-> #WINNING

IAG May 24, 2014 at 3:30 pm

Awesome, thanks Joe for the advertisement. The fact a republican feels the need to go on the air and attack us is vindication that #UniteBlue is having the desired effect. Now people that watch his show can type in that hashtag and see for themselves. That we care about women, security for growing old, educaction, veterans, poor people, working wages, the environment(both reducing pollution and saving us from climate change), the rights of workers, healthcare, etc. Pointing out the hypocracy of the GOP/Conservatives, the utter failure of their policies, and no vision for a future doesn’t equal hate mongers.

KRansome83 May 27, 2014 at 10:26 am

This I totally agree with.

Astor Gravelle May 24, 2014 at 7:56 pm

I just have to ask: who is the party who wants to overthrow the government? Who is the party that pointed guns at elected officials? Which party is the one who has members who talk about and wish for the assassination of the president? Which party supports people walking into restaurants with guns?

Which party has consistently blocked minimum wage increases, benefits for veterans, equal rights for women? Which party suppresses votes for minorities? Which party believes that Jesus walked with dinosaurs?

Talk to me again who are the freaks here?

Jolosturo May 24, 2014 at 7:59 pm

Ironic–coming from ANY Conservative.

jack francis May 25, 2014 at 2:12 am

Scarborough ( Boom Boom … a Big MT Drum) determined to undermine our POTUS,,,he has very real scandals in his past and continues to put forward made up scandals of WH..
He is a frustrated wannabe; a transparent stooge
for KOCHs….Jeb…Christie

get his goat remind him constantly of his hero
Ronnie…tripling debt from 1 to 3 Trillion, sold arms to Iran,, asleep when 241 Marines blown up in Lebanon (forgot why they were even there)

nancy snead May 27, 2014 at 12:59 am

msnbc get rid of joe

Russell Shreve May 28, 2014 at 1:56 pm

While defending dick Cheney’s use of water boarding, Scarborough said “what’s all the fuss ? A little water on the face?” At that moment he lost all credability. Like all republicans he just ignores the fact that torture IS against the law, World law. Cheney Brags about his guilt of Crimes Against Humanity and would do it again! Send him to Spain.

mona benge May 29, 2014 at 1:35 am

Is Joe concerned that the right might lose their “we hate everything and everyone” brand? Don’t worry Joe the GOP/tea party will always be the leaders when it comes to ignorance, tolerance and hateful behavior.

Hoosierville May 29, 2014 at 10:02 am

The comment regarding Lori Klausutis is not helping our cause. The person who posted it is not a Unite Blue member as far as I can tell. Might want to check into it.

Nancy Sappington August 26, 2014 at 8:02 pm

Joe is only employing the old Republican trick. “The best defense is a good offense.” They accuse “us” of exactly what “they” are doing. That way they keep us on the Defensive which keeps us from mounting a good Offense.
