National Campaigner

Description: Is a leader in a field and wants to be a voice for UniteBlue on important issues. They need to know policy and politics to well position UniteBlue’s stance as progressive and bold, and yet balance a united tone.

 

Expectations:

  • Creates emails, blogs, and other long form content at least twice a month.
  • Be open to being the talking head on UniteBlue videos for social content.
  • Is active on Twitter and is willing to drive messaging with and on behalf of UniteBlue around issues.
  • Works well with others across the full spectrum of the left.
  • Active on Slack when planning campaigns.
States Regional Lead

Description: This leadership position will help coach, recruit, and mentor a cluster of regional states that have issues in common and help lead regional content strategy. Makes sure national message is promoted via states.

 

Expectations:

  • Ensures states in the region are covered by or is helping recruit new State Coordinator.
  • Supports and covers regional accounts during TwitterStorms.
  • Assist with recruitment of State Coordinators.
  • Works with States Coordinators Lead to develop state’s strategy.
  • Check Slack once a day. Respond to action questions (e.g. should we do TwitterStorm? Are you available to do x?) with at least a yes/no/maybe that same day.

National Content Team

Email and Petition team

Description: Originates and helps draft petitions for rapid response and coordinating with TwitterStorms. Helps draft and leads on emails for updates, partner campaigns, and fundraising.

Expectations:

  • Originate at least one email or petition a month.
  • Supports at least one email campaign a week either as lead drafter or copy editor.
  • Check Slack once a day. Respond to action questions (e.g. should we do TwitterStorm? Are you available to do x?) with at least a yes/no/maybe that same day.
Social Team

Description: The social team helps draft and launch original UniteBlue content and images. Leads account engagement with supporters, elected officials, other organizations and movements.

Expectations:

  • Is willing to take at least two 2 hour shifts a week building following and engaging supporters on @UniteBlue and UniteBlue
  • Facebook page. This also includes following ppl, following back, checking DMs, etc.
  • Leads drafting of content for at least one campaign a week.
  • Creates simple videos for social.
  • Collaborates on all TwitterStorms supporting content creation and state support where needed.
  • Check Slack once a day. Responds to action requests with minimum of yes/no/maybe when first see request.
Blog and site content team

Description: Members of this team are willing to lead the way on thoughtful well written content designed to educate, drive impact, and further organizing on the left. This role will be key in helping develop and grow the narrative that is UniteBlue.

Expectations:

  • Originates at least one blog or curated page a month.
  • Develops social content for blog or curated page.
  • Supports with copyediting at least one peer blog or curated page a week.
  • Check Slack/communication at least 3 times a week. Responds to action requests with minimum of yes/no/maybe when first see request.
Graphic design

Description: Design is key to human connection and in this role we will elevate good design to move change. Helping support social and site design, they will be shaping how the world connects with UniteBlue. Designers may have their name included on social meme designs.

Expectations:

  • Supports the design of 2-5 graphics for social a week.
  • Supports at least one TwitterStorm a month.
  • Check Slack/communication at least 3 times a week. Responds to action requests with minimum of yes/no/maybe when first see request.
Video creator

Description: Video content is helping accelerate connection, understanding, and social media growth than ever before. Video creators may have their name included in the video information.

Expectations:

  • Creates at least one video for social a week.
  • Supports at least one TwitterStorm a month.
  • Check Slack/communication at least 3 times a week. Responds to action requests with minimum of yes/no/maybe when first see request.

State and Twitter Teams

State Coordinator

Description: People in this role are part of the driving force that makes UniteBlue distinct but driving a balance between national and local narrative. They are leaders managing and growing the state’s Twitter presence. Also playing an active role in National content planning and creating state specific variations on messaging where appropriate.

Expectations:

  • Helps build a team of volunteers in state to make the state’s handle vibrant, positive, and impactful.
  • Maintains UniteBlue best practices and goals around content.
  • Meets goals for state email list and account growth.
  • Manages state based or works with national support on DM campaigns.
  • Maintains brand consistency on state accounts.
  • Drives growth of state followings and state email list.
  • Maintains consistent messaging and goals.
  • Check Slack once a day. Respond to action questions (e.g. should we do TwitterStorm? Are you available to do x?) with at least a yes/no/maybe that same day.
State Twitter Support

Description: Is a key member in our team helping make sure the state’s Twitter account is vibrant, positive, and impactful. People in this role are dedicated to helping create state based content and maintaining a positive narrative.

Expectations:

  • Is taking consistent shifts to help manage the state account.
  • Is an active player in meeting goals for state email list and account growth
  • Check Slack/communication #? times a week. TBD based on state by state basis. Responds to action requests with minimum of yes/no/maybe when first see request.
TwitterStorm stoker

Description: Vital in making the impact of UniteBlue TwitterStorms bigger and more impactful are the dedicated Storm Stokers.

Expectations:

  • Willing to push the TwitterStorm via personal channels to recruit others during critical early moments of launches.
  • Actively recruiting new members both offline and online.
  • Is an online and offline ambassador for UniteBlue and a united progressive left.
  • Understands the importance of respecting the UniteBlue process.
State Bloggers

Description: Helping develop a missing link in progressive conversation is good state based political commentary. Bloggers will work to make clear the nuance between covering events and developing an editorial piece.

Expectations:

  • Drafts at minimum 1 state based blog 500 plus word blog per month.
  • Drafts at least two Tweet and Facebook roundups of a state based action or political issue per week/month/or?
  • Bloggers will not engage in inter-party fighting nor will content be drafted that does harm to the identity of being a Democrat.
  • Check slack 3 times a week(?). Responds to action requests with minimum of yes/no/maybe when first see request. (Not sure how will be communicating with this role)

Information Technology

Website Developer

Description: Responsible for development of UniteBlue’s website infrastructure as well as web based tools needed behind the scenes for UniteBlue to function internally and externally.

Expectations:

  • Owns development of UniteBlue’s main website infrastructure. Creates a site infrastructure that is easy for the Teams to use for publishing blogs, videos, etc.
  • Uses Twitter’s APIs to develop tools critical to UniteBlue’s success. Alternatively, researches and identifies existing tools that UB can use to achieve the same goals.
  • Researches and identifies other tools that may help UniteBlue attain goals.
  • Is available to support the main website, mentors a backup person for support.
  • Is available for support when needed during key events that depend on the website or tools working 100%. Mentors a backup person for support.
  • Ensure all website content is 100% backed up in a secure manner.
  • Check Slack once a day. Respond to action questions (Are you available to do x?) with at least a yes/no/maybe that same day.
IT (Information Technology) Administrator/s

Description: Responsible for administering all the various tools and infrastructure UniteBlue uses to function on a day to day basis. As UniteBlue continues to grow, this is a key role that is needed every day to keep the Team running quickly and smoothly.

Expectations:

  • A thorough understanding of Google Apps products is required.
  • Ability to learn new tools quickly and take over as Admin of them for the Team.
  • Research and identify other IT tools that may help UniteBlue attain goals.
  • Be the Admin support contact for team members’ individual issues.
  • Keep all infrastructure and team information up to date as UniteBlue grows.
  • Mentor backup IT support people for the various tools.
  • Ensure all content is 100% backed up in a secure manner for everything.
  • Check Slack at least once a day. Respond to action questions (Are you available to do x?) with at least a yes/no/maybe that same day.
  • Keep Team up to date on availability via Slack. If unavailable, communicate who is backup person covering that day.
  • Work with Teams to prioritize IT tasks to meet overall UB goals.
  • Given amount of IT support needed as we grow (and that we won’t have an IT staff), other UB members will need to help do some basic IT tasks, e.g. updating their state twitter pages, keeping contact info up to date, etc.
